Yang Yang robbery suspect released

PHILIPSBURG - On Tuesday morning a man suspected of being involved in the robbery of Yang Yang supermarket in Cole bay was released from custody.

He was released after his hearing in the Court of First Instance.

It was reported that on Sunday March 25th at approximately 02.00 p.m. the Yang Yang supermarket on the Well Road was robbed by a suspect who took off running through the surrounding neighborhood on the arrival of the police.

The supermarket was robbed by two suspects who were armed with a machete and a handgun.

During the robbery a victim was injured when the robber struck him on the head with the butt of the gun. The suspect was arrest based on a description that was given to the police and during a search he was spotted coming out of some nearby bushes

The suspect with initials R.F.A.Y. and who is from Sint Maarten was arrested on the spot. He denied having any involvement in the robbery however during a search in the bushes where he was seen coming from, a machete and other clothing that were used during the robbery was discovered.

The other suspect managed to avoid his capture and this case against is still being investigated by the authorities.
