PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - The island of Saba celebrated their first gay marriage this week.

The young couple took their nuptials on Tuesday morning in the islands Government Building.

Ruiz Pinto Israel and Gonzalez Cedeno Xiomar are residents of Aruba and were declared wed during a small ceremony.

The couple was wed by Civil Registrar Ms. Julietta Woods.

The issue of gay marriages was a point of discussion for the BES islands prior to 10-10-10 with the island of Statia seemingly putting up the most resistance to the possibility.

The reality of gay marriages on the BES islands could now become a marriage tourism niche some point out.

One reaction that stands out in the community of St. Eustatius is that "this is what becoming part of Holland has brought us."
