PHILIPSBURG - A violent accident took place at approximately 7pm on Friday evening on the Pondfill road, in the vicinity of GEBE and the Subway Restaurant. Five persons were taken to the Hospital as a result of the accident.
According to eye witness, the Hummer jeep was visibly driving at a high rate of speed. It was traveling in the direction of west to south or GEBE to Subway, when it slammed into a car that was making a left from the opposite direction.
The car with French number plates, made a left turn towards the Cannigieter Street when he was struck by the upcoming Hummer. The eye witnesses also stated that after impact, the accident turned aerial.
Standing from the Vantage point of a snack bar, opposite the former Philipsburg Theatres, the eye witnesses say that the Hummer went air born after striking the car. The jeep they say was visible, at the top of the palm trees that are planted along the road's edge.
Upon making contact with the ground again, they say that the Hummer then flipped several times, before coming to rest on the side pavement of the road, next to a parked SUV which contained a female occupant.
The Hummer is said to have contained two young occupants and the car, the lone driver. The extent of their injuries are not yet know. It is not expected though that the injuries of the Hummer occupants are that severe, as they are reported to have attempted to fight with each other, after the accident.
The occupant of the jeep who was waiting on the driver who had gone into the Subway restaurant, could only watch as the hummer came tumbling towards her, luckily it stopped after making minimal contact.
The accident is now being investigated by the traffic department.
