Statia has caretaker government confirms Lt. Gov

PHILIPSBURG - Lt. Governor on the island territory of St. Eustatius, Gerald Berkel confirmed on Thursday morning to PJD2 news department that he received an official notification in writing from the United People's Coalition Party (UPC) of Councilman Reginald Zaandam stating that they no longer in support of the coalition government.

   Lt. Governor Gerald Berkel told us that based on the letter he received, the party (UPC) stated that the direction of the coalition government was no longer working in the best interest of the people of St. Eustatius.

The Lt. Governor further stated that currently they are in a caretaker government situation and that the Executive Council will continue to function and execute the daily affairs of the island, until a government is put in place.
