PHILIPSBURG - Minister of Aviation the Honorable Franklin Meyers is lamenting the fact that St. Maarten has been hurt by the decision of the FAA to give Curacao a level 2 status.

The island is currently working on its own Civil Aviation Administration but for the time being through a corporation agreement with Curacao, St. Maarten is also affected.

There is no term on the corporation agreement between St. Maarten and Curacao for inspection and oversight and as such, once the St. Maarten Civil Aviation Administration is functional on that level the agreement can be terminated.

It is expected that the St. Maarten Civil Aviation Administration could be functional within three to five years.
